    PM - Day of Cheerful Service for Gavin Short

    4th Annual Day of Cheerful Service in Honor of Gavin Short afternoon session!From approximately 1-4pm, we will organize in an extensive park cleanup at two different parks in Wildwood. The Short family will split up so that we can represent at both locations. Wildwood park maintenance staff will be on hand to direct our efforts. For the most part, we will be cleaning up brush, removing fallen trees, performing branch maintenance, and general debris removal. The Park District will provide some loppers for us to use, as well as have water and snacks on hand. Please provide your own eye protection (and hearing protection if desired), gloves, hand tools/tree trimming tools, closed toed shoes, and extra water. Participants should be ready to work hard and dress for the weather - BE PREPARED! Note: the end time is flexible and participants do not have to stay for the entire shift.

    Des Plaines River Canoe Marathon

    Oak Spring Road Canoe Launch, Des Plaines River Trail, Libertyville, IL 60048, USA

    Marathon starts at the Oak Spring Road Canoe Launch in Libertyville and travels 18.5 miles down the river to Dam #2 Woods Forest Preserve in Cook County. This event was started by Ralph Frese as a way for his Scouts to use the canoes they built during the previous winter. 69 years later, it's grown into an ACA recognized marathon event attended by several hundred paddlers of all ages! During the race you will see racing canoes, recreational canoes, sea kayaks, racing kayaks, plastic boats, stand up paddleboarders, and everything in between.

    Fall edition of our twice yearly roadside cleanup.  Troop 671 is responsible for the stretch of Gages Lake Road between Almond Rd & Hunt Club Rd. Meet in the parking lot of the school, get supplies & split up into groups to go East & West.  It's an easy way to get conservation hours!
