Welcome to Troop 671’s website!
If you are considering joining Scouts BSA, congratulations! Scouting is a great program, reinforcing Citizenship, Leadership and Personal Fitness. Scouts BSA is for youth aged 11 to 17. Troop 671 is a very active group with 40+ youth from the Wildwood, Gurnee and Grayslake areas. We are a Scout-led troop and our Scouts do a great job leading meetings, planning activities and places to camp; as well as, providing service to our community. We enjoy the outdoors and have camping opportunities every month of the year.
To begin your adventure fill out an application online or reach out to our Membership Coordinator. We will answer any questions you might have about Scouting, Troop 671, and how your child can get involved.
Upon joining the Troop, youth new to Scouting must pay a total of $160.00. Part of this fee is collected by our council when you complete the online application. The balance is due to the troop. Webelos (Arrow of Light) Scouts crossing over into the Troop after January will pay a fee of $60.00. The Troop in return will provide the Scout the following:
- Boy Scout Neckerchief – only with initial registration with the Troop
- Boy Scout Neckerchief Slide – only with initial registration with the Troop
- Boy Scout Handbook – only with initial registration with the Troop
- Boy Scout Epaulets – only with initial registration with the Troop
- Troop numeral (671) and 55-year segment – single patch – only with initial registration with the Troop
- Northeast Illinois Council Strip – only with initial registration with the Troop
- World Crest – only with initial registration with the Troop
- Patrol Emblem
- BSA Registration Fee
- Boys Life Magazine
- Awards for the year
The Troop will collect a $85.00 Troop Registration Fee annually; by November of each year.
The Scout must obtain the Scout Shirt and any other patch he is eligible to display on the uniform shirt i.e. Arrow of Light, religious awards, etc. The Scout is expected to obtain official uniform pants; especially by the time he goes before the First Class Board of Review. The Troop maintains a supply of experienced uniforms from which the Scouts may borrow uniform items instead of purchasing them.
The Troop currently attends summer camp at Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan during Session 1 each summer. This is the Northeast Illinois Council summer camp. All Scouts and adults must have a completed medical form to attend summer camp.
The Troop typically has an overnight event once a month. A typical 3-day, 2-night camping trip is approximately $30.00, unless the outing requires an additional fee per Scout collected to reimburse the drivers for gas used for the trip. The event fee includes the food for the event, site fees, any registration fees/entrance fees, and Troop gear maintenance fund fee. Depending on the fees and the menu the boys prepare for the outing, an outing may be $15.00 and up to $80.00.
If you have any questions, the Scout should first contact his Patrol Leader. If the Patrol Leader cannot answer the question, contact the Senior Patrol Leader. If the Senior Patrol Leader cannot answer the question, contact the Scoutmaster, Dale Message at 847-913-4157 (cell).
